Family Counselling in Auckland

Supporting families through stress, change, and everyday pressures

Families don’t usually seek support because of one issue — it’s often the build-up of stress, pressure, and disconnection over time.

At Reset and Restore Counselling, I work with families navigating challenges such as tension at home, behavioural concerns, or periods of change. Often, what shows up in a child’s behaviour reflects what is happening within the wider family environment.

Family counselling offers a space to slow things down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and begin to shift patterns in a way that feels manageable and respectful for everyone involved.

When families might seek support

Families may come to counselling for a range of reasons, including:

  • ongoing tension or conflict at home

  • challenges in parent–child relationships

  • changes within the family (separation, loss, increased stress)

  • concerns about a child’s behaviour or emotional wellbeing

  • feeling stuck in repeated patterns that are hard to shift

Often, it is not one issue but how everything is interacting.

A whole-family approach

My approach to family counselling is grounded in understanding the family as a system, rather than focusing on one person as the problem.

This may involve:

  • meeting with parents, children, or the family together

  • supporting parents to better understand their child’s emotional world

  • creating space for children to feel heard in a safe and appropriate way

  • identifying patterns contributing to stress or disconnection

Where appropriate, family work may sit alongside individual sessions, allowing space for each person while still working toward shared understanding.

What you can expect

Family counselling is not about blame or assigning fault.

It is about:

  • building understanding

  • improving communication

  • supporting emotional regulation

  • creating a steadier, more connected home environment

The work is practical, calm, and paced carefully — particularly when children are involved.

Supporting families through stress and burnout

Modern family life can carry a significant load — work pressures, school demands, emotional strain, and limited time together.

Over time, this can lead to patterns of overwhelm, disconnection, and frustration within the home.

Family counselling can help to:

  • reduce pressure within the family system

  • create more supportive ways of responding to stress

  • strengthen relationships during demanding periods
