Child Counselling in Auckland (7-11)

I work with children aged 7–11, supporting them to understand their emotions, build confidence, and navigate challenges at school and at home.

Children don’t always have the words to explain what they are feeling — often, their emotions show up through behaviour, withdrawal, or changes in mood.

Counselling provides a safe and supportive space for children to express themselves, make sense of their experiences, and begin to feel more confident in managing their world.

My experience working within a primary school setting informs my understanding of the social and emotional challenges children navigate each day.

How sessions work

Sessions are age-appropriate and tailored to each child.

This may include:

  • conversation

  • creative activities

  • play-based approaches

  • simple, practical tools to support emotional regulation

The focus is on helping children feel comfortable, understood, and able to express themselves naturally.

Building Trust

Building trust is central to my work.

I prioritise forming a consistent, respectful relationship so that each child feels:

  • safe

  • heard

  • supported

  • and championed in their growth

Progress often begins with connection, and sessions are paced carefully to allow this to develop.

Working with parents and caregivers

Children are part of a wider family system.

I work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to support understanding of what a child may be experiencing, and to strengthen wellbeing within the home environment.

Where appropriate, this may include:

  • sharing general observations

  • supporting parents with practical strategies

  • ensuring consistency between sessions and home

Location

Sessions are available in Parnell, Auckland.
